Understanding the color genetics....
Blue Laced Red Wyandotte's do not breed true, meaning that this breed has unique color gentics resulting in three possible color types. When breeding these extraordinary birds there are three different possible color varieties of the offspring.
These three color types are:
Blue Laced Red Wyandottes...these have a deep red base with a gray or even lavender lacing.
Black Laced Red Wyandotte...these are a beautiful deep red with black lacing.
And...
Splash...these have a deep rust/red base with a lighter grey/lavender lacing.
Below is a chart showing the odds of color genetics for any breeder producing offspring:
- Blue x Blue = 50% Blue, 25% Black, 25% Splash
- Blue x Black = 50% Blue, 50% Black
- Black x Black = 100% Black
- Blue x Splash = 50% Blue, 50% Splash
- Black x Splash = 100% Blue
- Splash x Splash = 100% Splash
So there you have it! Because of the varying color genetics, we do not guarantee certain colors when reserving chicks. They are all beautiful!
